Beskrivelse
Summary:The increase in solid waste poses environmental and economic challenges, so the value chain focuses on optimizing its management to promote sustainability. This research evaluated the urban solid waste value chain in the Velasco Ibarra parish, canton El Empalme. Surveys were conducted in 368 households, 334 companies and 5 recycling centers, and the municipal waste manager was interviewed. Using the SPSS program, the reliability of the surveys was analyzed with Cronbach's alpha coefficient, obtaining high reliability values. Normality and correlation analyses were carried out using Spearman's Rho coefficient. A SWOT matrix was prepared to identify the factors affecting waste management and a value chain was designed to improve waste management. The results showed significant correlations between the frequency of waste collection and public satisfaction (0.718), and between legal compliance with hazardous waste and regular monitoring in companies (0.504). However, the correlation between recyclers' preferences and operational efficiency was weak (0.395). The research concluded that solid waste management is inefficient due to lack of coordination among the actors involved.
