| Riassunto: | This volume brings together a selection of papers presented at the 43rd Rencontres Internationales d'Archéologie et d'Histoire de Nice Côte d'Azur that focused on the social division of labour and, more generally, on the differentiation of human activities through the analysis of material culture. In keeping with the tradition of these Rencontres, this question is approached here through different disciplines (history, archaeology, anthropology, etc.), within a broad chronological (from prehistory to pre-industrial societies) and geographical framework (Europe, the Near East, Asia, Africa and America). Starting with a series of anthropological studies featuring a theoretical or epistemological focus, this volume presents a series of papers aiming to reconstitute the modes of social organization of past human activities based on the examination of various categories of objects, images and monuments that are analysed at different spatial scales (from the territory to the workshops, including settlements and residential buildings). |
