Zusammenfassung:The book analyzes petitioning practices and the various issues that shaped communicational dynamics in the Atlantic space of the Iberian monarchies between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. It starts from the premise that, in the communication between people overseas and the authorities in the Iberian Peninsula, petitions were the norm, and the circulation of documents and information in the intercontinental journeys that interconnected them was intense and constant. The work focuses on understanding governmental practices through the demands and agencies of different actors and groups, involving authorities, officials, and subjects of diverse legal status and social standing. The book is the result of dialogues established within the scope of the Circuitos Oceânicos project, coordinated by researchers from Portugal and Brazil, with interlocutors in both hemispheres.
