description From 1920, the newly created French Communist Party saw its influence extend to colonial Algeria where socialist activists massively joined the Third International. The latter, from the European population of the colony, must then adopt the resolutely anti-colonialist line of the Communist International, in a territory resolutely hostile to this idea. This book reconstructs what the communist organization was in colonial Algeria, from 1920 to 1939, presents its activists, their mobilizations, their links with the leadership of the PCF, in Paris, and with that of the Communist International, in Moscow and the repression they face. Above all, he questions the very nature of communism in its dimensions particular to colonial society, in a period when the first national liberation movements were emerging.
