Zusammenfassung:As a continuation of the binational studies that make up the Araucanía-Norpatagonia series, this volume emerges from the interpellation of the conjuncture that provoked the mobilisations of October 2019 in Chile, with the aim of broadening the gaze on social and symbolic constructions in an extensive temporality. In this line, the collected works give an interdisciplinary account of the historical continuities of physical violence aimed at the subjugation of the population, the construction of a hegemonic local memory that justifies social inequalities in two cities in Chile and Argentina, and gender discrimination in the Chilean university. It also analyses the questioning of hegemonic public symbols and the presence of other, alternative ones, based on the analysis of newspaper articles, as well as the impact on Argentine society of the model image of Chile as a beacon of the neoliberal model. The book is of interest for critically addressing social processes of recent history that are still relevant on both sides of the border in the Patagonian region.
