How is silence “expressed” in fiction? Rhetorical, lexical and syntactic elements are essential to the construction of characters, the creation of novelistic spaces and the unfolding of the literary plot, but they also play an equally important role in the expression of this motif, as well as in its representation and symbolic implications. Specialists in contemporary hispanic literature and linguists explore what silence says and how it is said, drawing on a corpus of works representative of twenty-first-century Latin American literature. The volume brings together eight contributions in Spanish and French.
