Shrnutí:This book is an essential tool for engineering students who are new to the study of Vector Calculus, with the objective of providing a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts of the calculus of several variables and its practical applications in engineering. It is structured in five units that begin with the fundamentals of vector calculus, such as the representation of points and vectors in space, vector operations, equations of lines and planes, and three-dimensional geometry. These fundamentals establish a foundation for the study of more advanced topics. The second unit explores vector functions, covering the study of curves in space and vector fields, with applications in physics, which helps students model and analyze physical phenomena with mathematical tools. The third unit focuses on differential calculus, covering partial derivatives, gradient, divergence and rotational, as well as optimization of functions of several variables with Lagrange multipliers. This part is crucial for solving optimization problems in engineering. The fourth unit deals with integral calculus, including multiple integrals, change of variables and Green's, Stokes' and Gauss' theorems, essential for calculating volumes, areas and flows in engineering problems. The methodology of the book is based on simplified learning, with clear and concise explanations, and avoids excessive formalisms. The numerous practical examples and exercises, both solved and proposed, allow students to apply theoretical concepts to real problems, reinforcing their learning. Aimed at engineering students at the State Technical University of Quevedo, especially those in the Vector Calculus course, this book is an invaluable resource for further study in the field of vector calculus and its applications in engineering.
