| Shrnutí: | Democracy is threatened above all by inequality, fears of social decline, globalization, and Europeanization. Parliamentarianism is increasingly unable to establish an effective connection between citizens and the political system. As a glance at some European countries show, Plebiscites offer little effective remedy and are in danger of being exploited by populists with the help of new media. New institutions are therefore needed to strengthen the representative system. The mode of deliberative decision-making could lead to greater responsiveness in government decisions. In addition to reforming political institutions, social cohesion depends on a certain degree of social empathy. This title is also available as Open Access. |
