Čoahkkáigeassu:Around the turn of the 19th Century, in close dialogue with Immanuel Kant, Johann Gottlieb Fichte and Friedrich Schelling, Bejamin Höijer developed a philosophical system that in hos own time received recognition not only in Sweden but in Germany also. His magnum opus, Avhandling om den filosofiska konstruktionen, was reviewed by Schelling who remarked that its author “should be ranked among the true thinkers.” The book, Benjamin Höijer. Metafysik, estetik, historia, provides readers with a broad presentation of this now largely forgotten philosopher. The authors collected in this edited anthology consider, inter alia: Höijer's concept of modernity; his relation to the tradition of German idealism; his philosophy of art and his views on the tasks of historiography. The volume also treats Höijer’s importance to Per Daniel Amadeus Atterbom and other Swedish romantics. This volume paints a complex picture of the first modern Swedish philosopher.
