Shrnutí:The edited volume *Cognition and Consciousness in Animals* brings together part of the research produced by students and faculty of the Master’s Program “Animals Ethics, Welfare and Law” during the period 2020–2025. The work transcends the boundaries of the diverse scientific specializations of its contributors and contributes to the synthesis of new knowledge and novel theoretical perspectives which, on the one hand, are of interdisciplinary interest and, on the other, place philosophy—especially in its applied form—at the core of scientific research. The aim of this volume is to introduce the non-specialist reader to the demanding and multi-layered field of the study of animal cognition and consciousness, and to demonstrate how philosophy can contribute in practical terms to conceptual clarification and precision, the identification of research obstacles, logical analysis, the proposal of theoretical models, and the formation of a unified body of study—even in cases where there are differing starting points and perspectives in the reading, interpretation, and evaluation of the research questions.
