Ամփոփում:When Viktor Rydberg died in 1895, his influence on swedish culture was considered to be immense. Indeed, his death sparked a period of national mourning. Today, with the exception of a couple of Christmas related poems, he is most remembered for having been forgotten. The fluctuations in interest in this cultural figure is the general object of study in this edited anthology. The aim of the volume is to elucidate areas of Rydberg’s authorship, to account for his readership and to explore the dynamics of cultural memory and processes of forgetting. This anthology investigates the reception history of Rydberg from a variety of perspectives, not only from within the field of literary studies but also from the fields of Religion, politics, and culture, more widely construed. The volume invites reflection on how to approach a body of work that once so highly valued, has, according to many, become hopelessly dated. Why should we care about Viktor Rydberg at all today?
