Summary:This special issue reprint brings together a set peer-reviewed contributions that explore the latest advances in the design, analysis, and performance assessment of breakwaters. The collected works reflect a multidisciplinary approach, integrating insights from coastal engineering, civil engineering, hydrodynamics, structural modeling, marine renewable energies coupled with breakwaters and environmental aspects of this field, among other relevant matters. Topics include numerical and experimental investigations of wave–structure interactions, innovations in rubble mound and vertical breakwater designs, and studies on the resilience and sustainability of coastal defense systems. Several papers focus on applied engineering cases, offering valuable case studies and practical insights for researchers, engineers, and decision-makers involved in coastal infrastructure. By addressing both traditional and emerging challenges in breakwater technology, this collection provides a comprehensive overview of current trends and future directions in the field.
