| description | This work brings together research relating to the two constitutions that were enacted and came into force in the state of Michoacán during the 19th century: the Political Constitution of the Free Federated State of Michoacán, enacted on 19 July 1825, and the Political Constitution of the State of Michoacán, issued by the Constituent Congress on 21 January 1858. The book comprises eleven chapters which analyse the context of the city of Valladolid de Michoacán during the period of independence; the freedoms and rights proclaimed in the first of these constitutions; the prohibition of slavery in the state; the composition and actions of the parliamentary factions within the first Constituent Congress; the constitutional framework established in the original Constitution; public education; the militia, army and military contingent; the birth and development of the Judiciary; the proposed reforms to the 1825 Constitution; and concludes with a study of the constitutions of Michoacán in the 19th century. |
