| Shrnutí: | For a long time, leadership has been perceived as a positive phenomenon related to a positive leader personality, a smooth leadership process and desirable leadership outcomes. However, nowadays, messages of destructive leadership, dark personality and inappropriate leader behavior – and the negative consequences of such leadership for employees and organizations – appear in the popular press and scientific literature more often. Dark triad leaders mean high cost for organizations, but there is a lack of reliable and evidence-based recommendations on how to deal with this. Therefore, this monograph presents some research (mainly quasi-experiments) about the evaluation of leaders with dark triad traits from the perspective of subordinates. First, readers are introduced to the results of a literature analysis about dark triad traits. L.D. Paulhus’ and M. K. Williams’ model of dark triad traits is composed of Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. The core of this model is the lack of empathy and fairness/humility. This model is used in further empirical analysis. The next section is about the relationship between dark triad traits and leadership: peculiarities of dark leaders, leadership styles from full range leadership model (Bass, Avolio, 1997) and positive leadership outcomes are reviewed. Research results confirmed that in the leadership context dark triad traits (especially, Narcissism and psychopathy) were significant factors for leaders’ rise, and for evaluation of leadership styles and outcomes. In the eyes of evaluators, dark hypothetical leaders were related to low ratings of positive leadership styles and positive outcomes.[...] |
