Summary:This chapter investigates the role of references to International Labour Organization (ILO) instruments in fostering coherence between trade law and the ILO's international labour standards system. It begins by examining the growing inclusion of labour provisions in trade arrangements and the integration of ILO references within these frameworks. Using data from the ILO's Labour Provisions in Trade Agreements Hub, the chapter identifies key trends in the evolution of these references and their multiple functions within trade arrangements. It then turns to the practical application of ILO references in trade arrangements, focusing on the dispute under the EU-Republic of Korea Trade Agreement. The chapter concludes by reflecting on the potential of ILO references to enhance coherence in the increasingly complex landscape of labour governance.
