Descripció
Sumari:This volume is the first of a publishing project aimed at the complete transcription of the letters sent via Venice by an enterprising merchant from Camerino – one of the five civitates maiores of the medieval Marche – to Francesco di Marco Datini. This corpus of nearly 600 letters offers a unique lens capable of providing unprecedented data on the quality, prices, and markings of the paper produced in the Marche and exported in huge quantities to Venice, Catalonia, Flanders, and England, making it one of the most significant sources for the history of the new writing materials. It also offers valuable information on the intercontinental trade in saffron, hides, fabrics, and wool; on climatic variations and the spread of the plague with their consequences; on the connections between the mercantile and banking worlds.
