Sumari:During the British colonial period, local history education in Hong Kong was not given due attention, and the “China factor” in the city’s development was often downplayed. To understand the future of China and the world, we must adopt a multidimensional, international perspective. This book employs such a broad vision, re-examining the history of China’s relations with other nations. It compiles research presented at the International Conference on China and the World by scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong, the United States, and elsewhere. Their studies analyze the relationship between China and the world from antiquity to the present, from angles such as Chinese intellectuals’ worldviews and Sino-foreign cultural interactions. These works break away from the limits of traditional world history; instead, they describe the integration between foreign countries and China through various topics, such as political activities, trade, and media. In recent years, the Chinese government has promoted the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area plan. Hong Kong’s history education and research should likewise capitalize on its unique culture, extending from China to Asia and the wider world, thereby exploring history, reflecting on the present, and looking forward to the future.
