| description | Since Hong Kong and Macau returned to China in the late 1990s, exchanges among the three regions in politics, economy, society, culture, and even transportation have steadily increased. Cooperation in the Pearl River Delta has brought many development opportunities to Hong Kong and Macau. For Hong Kong, the most notable is the growth of the financial sector; for Macau, the greatest benefit has been to its gaming industry. In the success of both, the factor of Mainland China cannot be ignored. However, as cooperation deepens, challenges have also emerged alongside opportunities. Among them, the greatest concern is the deepening of conflicts between Hong Kong and the Mainland, as well as the marginalization of Hong Kong. This book originates from research on the integration of the Pearl River Delta with Hong Kong and Macau and brings together the findings of 21 scholars from different higher education institutions. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the opportunities and difficulties arising from integration, with discussions subdivided into politics, economy, public administration, education, religion, transportation, urban planning, social policy, and social services. Taking a comprehensive view of the changes brought about by integration, this book serves as a timely and relevant reference. |

2026-06-05T03:36:35Z 2026-06-05T03:36:35Z 2014 book 978-962-937-230-9 https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/177150 chi image/jpeg application/pdf Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International https://www.cityu.edu.hk/upress/pearl-river-delta-and-its-integration-with-hong-kong-and-macau-in-chinese https://openbookshongkong.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/9789629372309_OBHK.pdf https://openbookshongkong.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/9789629372309_OBHK.pdf City University of Hong Kong Press City University of Hong Kong Press 841c9a73-b6fc-4723-a630-4f1b01216d54 978-962-937-230-9 City University of Hong Kong Press Hong Kong open access |
