| description | The publication Life in the Suburbs of Bratislava. Selected Ethnological Aspects is dedicated to selected issues related to life in the residential suburbs of Bratislava. Over the past quarter-century, the surroundings of Bratislava have witnessed the emergence of a ring of settlements whose built-up areas have expanded at the expense of outlying zones, with some already merging into a continuous built-up area. The purpose of this publication is to offer insight into life in these localities, not through numbers and statistical data, but through interviews, observation, and the analysis of materials that reflect everyday life in the suburbs. The research was carried out in 2022 and 2025, supplemented with internet sources. The publication brings together topics that connect and complement the extensive research on Bratislava’s suburbs conducted by geographers and sociologists over the past two decades. Two of the three municipalities where we conducted research rank among the most rapidly developing localities around Bratislava and have the potential to grow into towns with tens of thousands of inhabitants. The third settlement represents a compact locality that does not possess the same potential for rapid growth, as conditions for developers’ entry there have been less favourable. It is the first Slovak academic publication to focus specifically on the phenomenon of settling in intra- and extra-urban spaces, illustrated by the example of the transformation of a recreational zone into a permanently inhabited area. The results of our qualitative research challenge the established stereotype of suburban uniformity. |

V okolí Bratislavy sa vytvoril prstenec sídel, ktorých intravilán sa za posledné štvrťstoročie rozšíril na úkor extravilánu až sa niektoré postupne zlievajú do plynulej zástavby. Cieľom tejto publikácie je nahliadnutie do života vybraných lokalít nie cez reč čísel a štatistických údajov, ale prostredníctvom pozorovania, rozhovorov a štúdia materiálov o živote v nich. Výskumy boli realizované v rokoch 2022 – 2025, doplnené boli informáciami z internetových zdrojov. Publikácia prináša témy, ktoré prepájajú a dopĺňajú už pomerne komplexné výskumy bratislavských suburbií uskutočnené geografmi a sociológmi za ostatných dvadsať rokov. Z troch obcí vybraných pre výskum dve predstavujú najrýchlejšie sa rozvíjajúce sídla v zázemí Bratislavy s perspektívou stať sa mestami s niekoľkými desiatkami tisícov obyvateľov. Tretia skúmaná obec je príkladom kompaktnej obce s menším potenciálom prudkého rastu obyvateľstva, pretože podmienky pre vstup developerov v nej boli menej priaznivé. Po prvýkrát je v slovenskej odbornej produkcii venovaná pozornosť aj inému fenoménu osídľovania vnútro aj mimomestských priestorov na príklade zmeny funkcie rekreačnej osady na rezidentské bývanie, čo je proces prebiehajúci v rôznych záhradkárskych a rekreačných osadách.
