Such a conviction we can found already at the ancient Israelites, who established their kings by prior approval of tribal elders, representing the people of Israel. A big role for the raise of the awareness that the consent of the governed is a necessary condition for the legality of the government, had the politically engaged followers of Calvinism – French Huguenots, or English Puritans. |
