| Resumo: | ‘If you are satisfied, I will be satisfied too’ wrote Paulina Wielopolska to her husband Aleksander. This declaration, contained in one of the margravine’s private letters, becomes the starting point for a reflection on the marital relationship of two people set in the context of the turbulent history of the Kingdom of Poland._x000D_ The book presents a selection of the correspondence of Paulina Wielopolska, née Potocka, and margrave Aleksander Wielopolska from 1860–1862. The letters constitute valuable scientific material, documenting both the private life of this couple and the political background of the Kingdom of Poland on the eve of the January Uprising._x000D_ The published egodocuments show a complex marital relationship in which personal emotions and loyalty intertwine with political activity and the tensions of the era. Particular attention is paid to the role of Paulina Wielopolska – a woman functioning in a world of social and legal restrictions, and yet supporting her husband in his public activities._x000D_ This publication can be a valuable source for historians, researchers of the political and social history of the 19th century, as well as for those dealing with the history of women or the culture of the elites of the Kingdom of Poland. |
