description This monograph presents the results of a qualitative study conducted in the H2020 CONCISE project – Communication role on perception and beliefs of EU citizens about science, which aimed to investigate the role of science communication in shaping the knowledge, opinions and beliefs of EU citizens about science. One-day public consultations were carried out in Poland, Spain, Portugal, Slovakia and Italy, in which 100 selected citizens of the given country participated. This publication presents the results of the consultation carried out in Poland – in September 2019 in Lodz. During a moderated discussion, the participants of the consultation shared their opinions on science communication, including opportunities and barriers to the dissemination of scientific information. The publication consists of four chapters corresponding to the four consultation topics – climate change, vaccines, GMOs, alternative medicine – and a summary. Based on the opinions of the participants of the consultations conducted within the CONCISE project, it was possible to draw conclusions about science communication for the discussed topics, however, it was not possible to find a standard for science communication in Poland, which could constitute a universal signpost for scientists, popularisers of science or journalists. Each science topic requires an appropriate communication strategy. For each topic, the recipients formulated different preferences as to where and in what form they would like to receive information. Therefore, it seems reasonable to recommend that communicators of scientific content on a given topic diagnose well the preferences of their audiences in this area before communicating science. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement 824537.
