| Sumari: | At the heart of the 33rd edition of the CRENoS Report on the Economy of Sardinia is the issue of migration and human capital. In light of the well-known demographic challenges, the issue of attractiveness takes on even greater importance. Is it possible to counter depopulation by making the choice to stay, move to (or return to) Sardinia a viable option? To do so, we must urgently address certain issues—some well-known and others emerging. Among these, the functioning of the healthcare system is the primary concern, alongside growing pressure on the real estate market and housing affordability—a consequence of the success of tourism, which on the island is particularly tied to the availability of private accommodations. Even in 2025, in fact, tourism will continue to drive the Sardinian economy along a path of expansion. However, several threats weigh on Sardinia’s growth prospects. Among these are the labor market, which is slowing down and is driven by older rather than younger workers; difficulties in exports, which are affected by protectionist policies overseas; and developments related to artificial intelligence, whose effects on the productive sector are beginning to be felt on the island as well. |
