| Samenvatting: | In the face of multiple crises, preserving resources is one of the most pressing issues of our time. It calls for new ways of thinking in the construction and planning sectors. Cities play a crucial role in this context, as they not only contribute significantly to consumption, but also offer potential for the careful use of land, natural resources, energy and materials. The preservation of natural resources and the preservation and careful renewal of existing built structures instead of demolition and new construction are considered key strategies for conserving valuable resources. Urban transformation aims to achieve far-reaching changes towards sustainable structures – changes that involve iterative and often contradictory processes. The challenge lies less in defining goals and more in overcoming existing routines and structures – in unlearning unsustainable practices. This book brings together case studies of urban transformation from different cities with a special focus on the underlying learning and unlearning processes, which are supplemented by interviews with practitioners. It provides insights into detours and pathways of transformations and triggers reflections on future-oriented transformation practices. |
