The second part consists of the following studies: "The descensus ad inferos as nuclear scene of an inexistent Orthodox resurrection play", "Structures of reception of Early Modern Greek drama", "Religious baroque theatre during the processions of Corpus Christi on the Cyclades in the 17th century", "Religious festivals of the Baroque era on the islands of the Archipelagus under the Turkish rule (Capucins, Chios 1673)", "Greek editions in Vienna from Gluck to Kotzebue. The theatre life of the Danubian capital in Greek translations 1780-1820", "Literature and theatre in Greece 1728-1888", and "Constantin Christomanos and the theatre of fin de siècle in Austria and Greece".
Comparative studies in South Eastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, especially in theatre and drama history, are very rare. Some of these studies are ground-breaking in specific subjects. Exhaustive registers will bring these studies together thematically, studies which in sum, together with the ones of the second volume, will give an idea of a future handbook on Southeatersn Europe theatre and drama from the Midde Ages up to the 20th century. |

Der vorliegende Band, der erste einer auf zwei Bände angelegten Publikation umfaßt 12 Studien zu verschiedenen Bereichen der Theaterwissenschaft im südosteuropäischen und mediterranen Raum. Nach der EU Ost- und Südosterweiterung, dem Beitritt Zyperns und dem angestrebten Beitritt der Türkei kommt der Kenntnis dieser Kulturräume gravierende Bedeutung zu und es wird ihnen von verschiedenen Wissenschaftsdisziplinen erhöhte Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt. Das Wiener Institut für Theaterwissenschaft, aus dem der Verf. hervorgegangen ist und an dem er noch lehrt, hat den historischen Bindungen zu den K.u.K. Nachfolgestaaten und Südosteuropa in seinen Forschungsprogrammen immer einen bedeutenden Platz eingeräumt, und unter den geänderten Verhältnissen des Zusammenschlusses Europas kommt dieser Orientierung besondere Aktualität zu. Der Band umfaßt 12 Einzelstudien zu spezifischen Themenstellungen, die, zusammen mit dem 2. Band, eine Art Vorgeschmack eines theaterwissenschaftlichen Handbuches für den bezeicheten Kulturraum geben. Fünf dieser Studien sind komparativen Aspekten gewidmet, und sieben betreffen spezifischer die griechische Theaterwissenschaft und ihren europäischen Querverbdinungen. Der erste Teil umfaßt folgende Themen: "Typologische Entwicklungsstrukturen der Theatergeschichte im südosteuropäischen Raum", "Vergleichende Beiträge zum traditionellen Volkspuppenspiel auf der Balkanhalbinsel", "Schwarzauge Karagöz und seine Geschichte auf der Balkanhalbinsel zur Zeit der Türkenherrschaft", "Die repraesentatio figurata der Präsentation der Jungfrau Maria im Tempel von Philippe de Mézières (Avignon 1372) und ihre angeblichen zypriotische Herkunft", und "Skenderbey in der europäischen und balkanischen Dramatik". Der zweite Teil umfaßt die folgenden Studien: "'Abgestiegen zur Hölle'. Der descensus ad inferos als Keimzelle eines inexistenten orthodoxen Auferstungs-Spiels", "Rezeptionsstrukturen frühneugriechischer Dramatik", "Barockes Ordenstheater bei Fronleichnamsprozessionen auf den Kykladen im 17. Jahrhundert", "Barocke Ordensfestivitäten auf Ägäisinseln zur Zeit der Türkenherrschaft (Kapuziner, Chios 1673)", "Wiener Griechendrucke von Gluck bis Kotzebue. Das Theaterleben der Donau-Metropole in griechischen Übersetzungen 1780-1820", "Literatur- und Theaterwesen Griechenlands von 1827 bis 1888" und "Konstantinos Christomanos und das Theater des fin de siècle in Österreich und Griechenland". Auf dem Sektor der komparaitven Theatergeschichte Südosteuropas und des mediterranen Raums gilt es große Forschungslücken zu schließen. Die Einzelstudien bringen durchwegs Neuerkenntnisse und sind in Einzelfragen als bahnbrechend zu bezeichnen.
