Die hier zusammengestellten Aufsätze verdanken sich letztlich sämtlich der langjährigen Bemühung des Autors, der Umweltgeschichte im Wissenschaftsbetrieb ihren Platz als fächerübergreifendes Gespräch zu sichern. Als Querschnitt durch seine umwelthistorischen Arbeiten der letzten Jahre dokumentieren sie einen Teil der Publikationstätigkeit des Autors.
