Nederlandse literatuur op weg naar de buitenlandse lezer besteedt aandacht aan de verschillende fasen en aspecten van het parcours dat een Nederlandstalig boek doorloopt vanaf de originele versie tot zijn aankomst bij een anderstalige lezer. Daarbij staan literaire vertalingen centraal met Nederlands als brontaal. Van de drie elementen van het transferparcours – selectie, transport en receptie – gaat de aandacht in het bijzonder uit naar kwesties die met de productiezijde van het literaire transferproces te maken hebben. Vragen die daarbij een rol spelen zijn onder andere: onder welke voorwaarden komt een vertaling tot stand? Wie zijn daar allemaal bij betrokken? Welke rollen spelen vertalers en instituties daarbij? Welke normen bepalen de productie en verspreiding van vertaalde teksten?
