description There are numerous popular myths concerning Hispanic America in German and Austrian textbooks from the first decade of the 21st century, and thus there is a big gap between historical narratives in textbooks and the scientific historical discourse. An analysis of textbooks from four centuries shows, that some of the myths were introduced into the textbooks in the twentieth century – for example the “myth of the flat earth” of medieval times. The myths relating to Hispanic America and the images and assumptions they conveyed were important to many different groups throughout history, became incorporated into collective memory and were uncritically incorporated into German and Austrian textbooks.

2021-02-10T12:58:18Z 2013-12-31 23:55:55 2019-05-11 03:00:54 2020-04-01T14:49:14Z book 462243 OCN: 934623353 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/33511 9783737002042 https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38911 ger open access image/jpeg image/jpeg image/jpeg image/jpeg image/jpeg image/jpeg image/jpeg image/jpeg https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/20.500.12657/33511/1/462243.pdf https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/20.500.12657/33511/1/462243.pdf https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/20.500.12657/33511/1/462243.pdf https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/20.500.12657/33511/1/462243.pdf https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/20.500.12657/33511/1/462243.pdf https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/20.500.12657/33511/1/462243.pdf https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/20.500.12657/33511/1/462243.pdf https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/20.500.12657/33511/1/462243.pdf Brill V&R unipress 10.14220/9783737002042 10.14220/9783737002042 33fecb33-e7c4-4fc8-96b0-7ba2fccafba9 Austrian Science Fund 26ae1657-c58f-4f1d-a392-585ee75c293e 9783737002042 Austrian Science Fund (FWF) V&R unipress 246 PUB 106 open access
