This book draws attention to the political dimensions of Diderot’s virtuosity as a writer and examines in particular their productive reception in German-speaking countries. Denis Diderots Entwicklung als Schriftsteller ist geprägt von einer permanenten formalen Überbietung. Diese unablässige Suche nach immer wieder neuen Schreibweisen ist nicht nur Ausdruck einer beeindruckenden künstlerischen Raffinesse, sondern auch ein konstitutives Element seiner zum Teil dezidiert politischen Anliegen.
