In historischen Wissenschaften und in der Ortsgeschichtsforschung werden immer wieder Siegelabbildungen der Bischöfe und Erzbischöfe der Diözesen in der Salzburger Metropole einbezogen. Mit der photographischen Dokumentation eines Beispiels aller bisher bekannten Siegeltypare wird erstmals der erhaltene Siegelbestand als kulturelles Erbe Europas dokumentiert.
