Knjiga predstavlja rezultate raziskave orientacij v predšpanski arhitekturi zahodne in severne Mezoamerike. Analize podatkov so pokazale, da so bile pomembne stavbe povečini usmerjene na osnovi astronomskih referenc. Orientacije se večinoma nanašajo na Sončeva vzhajališča in zahajališča na določene datume, nekatere pa morda na skrajne položaje Lune ali Venere na horizontu. V razporeditvi intervalov med datumi, ki jih registrirajo solarne orientacije, so opazne koncentracije okoli nekaterih mnogokratnikov 13 in 20 dni. Distribucija datumov v letu, podobnosti z vzorci orientacij v drugih predelih Mezoamerike in kontekstualni podatki, vključno z etnografskim gradivom, kažejo, da so solarne orientacije omogočale uporabo opazovalnih koledarjev, ki so olajševali načrtovanje poljedelskih dejavnosti in s temi povezanih obredov.
