Die russische ‚Mittelschicht‘ ist ein seit dem Ende der Sowjetunion viel beachtetes Forschungsthema, was sich v. a. durch die ihr zugeschriebene gesellschaftspolitische Rolle als Katalysator demokratiepolitischer und marktwirtschaftlicher Transformationen im postsozialistischen Russland motiviert. Bernhard Braun löst sich in seinem Buch von solch eurozentrischen Entwicklungsnarrativen und nähert sich der Moskauer ‚Mittelschicht‘ durch ethnographische Forschung an.
