It explains the mission and objectives of the society: the promotion and development of Sachunterricht as a teaching subject in primary schools, as a subject at universities and colleges and as an academic discipline. Historical foundations and developments are described, current conditions and challenges are discussed and important future tasks are considered. The volume provides information on the origins and beginnings of the society, explains the important educational policy initiatives, summarises conferences, publications and research, documents sources and materials on the history of the society and provides an overview of the work of the executive boards.
