The result of this analysis is the suggestion to incorporate the term ‘gothic ballad’ into Polish literary studies. The term was used to refer to a selection of texts of a ballad character, written at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. The group of texts under discussion is inherently non-homogenous, as it consists of ballads, dumas, patriotic songs, elegies, and works of a reflective, contemplative nature. The incorporation of all of the aforementioned genres into one category was justified by referring to the critical-genealogical awareness of the turn of the century. |
