Summary:Historic places are nationally unique, but still easily recognizable across national borders in the same way as flags, national anthems and other national symbols. The places tell about origins and developments. They are associated with past events, people or institutions that have shaped the nation in decisive ways. In this way, they are a link between the past and the present. This book deals with three central historical places in Norway: Borre, Hafrsfjord and Stiklestad. On Borre are the monumental burial mounds where people from the Ynglinge family were believed to be buried for a long time. In Hafrsfjord, the decisive event in Harald Hårfagre's national assembly process took place, while Stiklestad is known for the battle in 1030 when Olav Haraldsson fell and gained a reputation as a Christian martyr and "Norway's eternal king". All three of these places have been linked to Norway's origins as a state, territory or as a religious and cultural community. How did it happen?
