This book deals with three central historical places in Norway: Borre, Hafrsfjord and Stiklestad. On Borre are the monumental burial mounds where people from the Ynglinge family were believed to be buried for a long time. In Hafrsfjord, the decisive event in Harald Hårfagre's national assembly process took place, while Stiklestad is known for the battle in 1030 when Olav Haraldsson fell and gained a reputation as a Christian martyr and "Norway's eternal king". All three of these places have been linked to Norway's origins as a state, territory or as a religious and cultural community. How did it happen? |
