The book argues that the identities of gay men in these three locations—the flamboyant consumerist memba in Hong Kong, the urban gay men and money boys in mainland China, and the feminized golden boys in London—are influenced by transnational waves of global and local queer cultures. By rejecting the assumptions of global homogenization and local essentialism, the book offers groundbreaking insights into the gender and sexuality of Chinese gay men and establishes a new theoretical paradigm of “queer hybridity” for understanding transnational Chinese sexual identities, desires, and practices. |
