Fifteen tracks were recorded. Twelve were in large formation and three in quartet. Over the years, they will be published in various formats, under the title The Individualism of Gil Evans. Today, this album is regarded as a benchmark in the art of arranging and a pinnacle of the decade's jazz. After a brief biographical sketch, Laurent Cugny's present work first sets out the background to the series of recordings concerned, followed by a list of the main phonographic editions and the corpus of recordings.
