Today, this album is regarded as a benchmark in the art of arranging and a pinnacle of the decade's jazz. After a brief biographical sketch, Laurent Cugny's present work first sets out the background to the series of recordings concerned, followed by a list of the main phonographic editions and the corpus of recordings. Each of the twelve large-scale recordings is then described in detail, in the chronological order of their creation. An overview of Gil Evans' reception and career after The Individualism of Gil Evans follows, before a conclusion and bibliography. |
