Riassunto:Serving the royal court for 35 years, Gil Vicente wrote and staged about fifty plays, covering the different genres of European theater of the late Middle Ages. Despite the diversity that characterizes his work from the thematic and formal point of view, there are coherent lines that allow us to establish important connections between the plays. This is the case from the Visitation and the Auto Pastoril Castelhano (both performed in 1502) to Floresta de Enganos, performed in 1536, which is the epilogue of an unusually extensive, regular and continuous creation. Throughout the different essays that make up the present volume, an attempt is made to demonstrate the unity and uniqueness of a work that, for various reasons, has never been repeated in the history of Portuguese and Peninsular culture.
