Description
Summary:This book investigates the construction of taste in the Mediterranean during the first millennium BC, focusing on the dietary, aesthetic, and stylistic dimensions of Phoenician and Punic societies—communities continually shaped by ethnic and cultural exchange. Adopting a multidisciplinary and comparative approach, the authors integrate traditional sources (textual, archaeological, and iconographic) with innovative methodologies such as biochemical analysis and archaeozoology, to investigate how these societies developed strategies of distinction and adaptation. The book also examines how certain tastes came to be attributed to the Phoenicians as perceived by “Others,” whether in ancient Greek and Latin texts or in modern scholarly interpretations.
