description International Computer and Information Literacy Study (ICILS) surveys 14-year-olds’ computer and information literacy and computational thinking. In this anthology, the authors analyze data from the 2023 iteration of the ICILS survey and expound on students’ potential for honing their digital competencies and succeeding in this digital reality. ICILS study is conducted every five years, facilitating a long-term perspective on the development of students’ digital competencies and the use of digital technology in school. In 2023 the ICILS survey was carried out for the third time, and Norway has participated twice. The study also queries students, teachers, school administrators and IT coordinators on conditions relating to the digital realm, providing a thorough understanding of the digital context within the educational system. Four Nordic countries participated in 2023, affording a basis for identifying and discussing similarities and differences across the Nordic countries. The study’s findings provide insight into digital technology’s various roles in the educational system and how digital technology is perceived in the Norwegian school context. The Norwegian results are also discussed in light of findings from the other Nordic countries and with the international average. Spotlight on Digital Learning: Secondary Analyses from ICILS 2023 will contribute to a broader dialogue on how schools can adapt to digital development and ensure that all students have an opportunity to develop necessary digital competence and computational thinking. The book is relevant for researchers, politicians, teachers, teaching students and others with an interest in this field.
