Sumari:This text, based on a rigorous review of recent scientific articles and publications issued by leading technology organizations, aims to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of the metaverse phenomenon, aimed at students, researchers, and professionals from different disciplines. The metaverse is addressed as an immersive, three-dimensional, and persistent iteration of the internet, closely related to extended realities (XR), and the technological pillars that enable its development are analyzed, such as advanced connectivity, artificial intelligence, blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), and specialized hardware. The study also delves into the principles of immersive design, highlighting its role in creating meaningful experiences through environmental narrative, aesthetic atmosphere, and level design. It also examines the tools of the so-called digital cartographer, including advanced graphics engines, creator-friendly platforms, three-dimensional asset management, and workflows specific to development in virtual environments. Together, this analysis offers a structured overview of the fundamentals, applications, and challenges of the metaverse, with the aim of preparing readers to understand, design, and actively participate in this emerging evolution of the digital environment.
