Resumo:The set of studies analyzed aimed to understand the magnitude and determinants of digital illiteracy in Ecuador, as well as its implications for employability, social inclusion, and educational development in rural and semi-rural contexts. To this end, various qualitative methodological strategies were applied, including a theoretical and documentary review of recent scientific literature, analysis of institutional studies, and the use of fieldwork techniques such as interviews, participant observation, and assessment tools, with intentional samples in hard-to-reach areas. The main findings show that the digital divide in Ecuador is deeply conditioned by sociodemographic factors such as educational level, age, gender, economic conditions, territory, and ethnicity. It was identified that large population groups have limited digital skills, which affects their access to formal employment, restricts educational participation, and reduces entrepreneurial capacity. High levels of disconnection are observed among rural youth, associated with poor infrastructure and a predominantly recreational use of technology. Likewise, the validation of an instrument to measure digital illiteracy showed theoretical consistency and diagnostic usefulness, highlighting weaknesses in security and critical digital thinking. Overall, the results underscore the urgency of implementing contextualized public policies and training programs that promote technological inclusion and reduce structural inequalities.
