| Sumari: | This volume presents the research findings on educational poverty from a study launched in 2022 as part of a project funded by the University of Naples Federico II (MAPO Project – Measuring and mApping educational POverty, coordinated by Prof. Cristina Davino – Department of Economics and Statistics) and continued until 2025 through a second project, Invisible Barriers, carried out in collaboration with Save the Children’s Research Centre and with the support of the GRINS project – Growing Resilient, inclusive and Sustainable, funded by the Ministry of University and Research as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The study proposes an innovative and multidimensional approach to measuring educational poverty, integrating objective and subjective indicators and focussing on the voices, perceptions and aspirations of young people. The research, conducted among adolescents aged between 15 and 19 living in Naples and its province, combines quantitative and qualitative methodologies, involving over 4,000 young people, both school leavers and current students. The focus on young people’s lived experiences brings to light latent dimensions of educational poverty and reveals the ‘invisible barriers’ that limit opportunities for growth. The results provide a detailed picture of educational inequalities in the Neapolitan context, highlighting the direct contribution of adolescents as a key element in understanding the phenomenon and offering a comprehensive overview that, it is hoped, will be of value to institutions and stakeholders. |
