| Shrnutí: | How do Brazilian learners acquire German word stress? To address this question, Anna Salgo investigates the perception and production of word stress in internationalisms. Owing to formal and semantic similarities across languages, internationalisms are often considered to facilitate language learning. However, they frequently exhibit divergent stress patterns, which can lead to interference-related difficulties in pronunciation. Based on a contrastive analysis of Brazilian Portuguese, English, and German, the author identifies potential sources of interference in the acquisition of German word stress. These hypotheses are then tested empirically in a perception study and a production study. The findings make a significant contribution to research on suprasegmental features in the context of German as a foreign and second language. |
