The focus is therefore primarily on the materialities of teaching, e.g. teaching materials, teaching media and the mode of dealing with knowledge - knowledge practices that make up the specialised nature of school subjects. Die Beiträge des Sammelbandes betrachten aus einer praxeologischen Perspektive die historische Dynamik um Entstehung, Organisation und Transformation von Schulfächern. Betrachtet werden daher vor allem Materialitäten des Unterrichts, z.B. Lehrmaterialien, Unterrichtsmedien und der Modus des Umgangs mit Wissen – Wissenspraktiken, die die Fachlichkeit der Schulfächer ausmachen. Von besonderem Interesse sind Prozesse der Auseinandersetzung um Fächer und ihre Inhalte genauso wie Fälle von Fächern denen keine bestimmten Universitätsdisziplinen zuzuordnen sind, die aber dennoch für die Entwicklung von schulischen Wissensbeständen von besonderer Bedeutung sind.
