| Summary: | Our contemporary communication is likely more boundless than ever before. Using tools like Zoom and Teams, WhatsApp, LINE, LinkedIn, Twitter or Facebook, we cross geographical and cultural boundaries in ways that would have seemed impossible just ten years ago. This boundlessness of communication has become so normal that we often remain unaware of its complexity.
This borderless nature primarily concerns English as a lingua franca, but it also applies to other languages. Among these, German, being the most widely spoken native language within the European Union, holds a special position. Accordingly, it is the main focus of this volume. Some contributions also include French, bringing together the two most important languages currently spoken across the EU.
The volume focuses on reflections about linguistic and cultural boundlessness, primarily didactic considerations aimed at enabling increasingly cross-border communication. These reflections are both theoretical and practical; they address foreign language learners and educators; they involve real and virtual worlds; and they refer to general language as well as specialized terminology. The contributions cover a broad spectrum but are united by the central theme, fostering the ability for boundless communication. |
