Beskrivelse
Summary:This volume explores the contemporary landscape of foreign language education in the 21st century, with a particular focus on three central dimensions: learners, methodologies, and pedagogical challenges. The demands placed on today’s language learners are markedly more complex than in previous decades. While learners are increasingly autonomous and self-directed, questions remain as to whether they are fully prepared to meet the high expectations of global communication and linguistic competence. In response, language teaching methodologies have undergone significant transformation, characterised by professionalisation and pedagogical innovation. These approaches aim to reconcile the often competing demands of communicative fluency and linguistic accuracy, supporting meaningful language development. At the same time, the field continues to face challenges related to instructional efficiency, the articulation of learning goals, and adaptation to evolving educational contexts. By addressing these interrelated concerns, this volume contributes to the ongoing re-evaluation of foreign language education. It offers research-informed perspectives to enhance the effectiveness, relevance, and future-readiness of language teaching, serving as a valuable resource for scholars, teacher educators, and policy-makers working to shape the future of language learning in a complex global environment.
