Riassunto:This work compiles texts by experts from various fields of knowledge, aiming at a historical understanding of practices and realities regarding food supply and human sociability during meals in specific urban realities. Under the axis of the questions “What does the city eat? How does the city eat?”, we publish two volumes, with the set of chapters organised into fiveparts. The published contributions aim to conceive the city as a primary space for understanding food as a language of cultural exchanges, in its narrative forms, its dietary-cultural models and conventions, its commercialisation, and the celebrations and representations that highlight it as a manifestation of urban sociability. The set of texts considers disparate aspects of living in the city and how the manifestation of the phenomenon of food presents itself in this primordial space of the history of living and contemporary life. Typologies (models, protocols, projects, systems) of practices and imagery, artistic and museological representations, as well as memories and narratives, forms of celebration and commercialisation denote cities and their foods as an essential object for the study of food and the Humanities.
